EXAMPLES OF INDOOR RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

As the name implies, indoor recreational activities are usually done within a building and under a roof. It is mostly passive in nature. And usually practiced among family, friends and colleagues.

It is important to note that during competitive sports some recreational games like badminton, table tennis would not be played outdoors but only indoors because of the effect of weather. However during recreation, since there are no specific rules and regulations, it can be played and enjoyed outdoors. Since part of the characteristics of recreation is the fact that it is done during leisure time for fun and enjoyment and there are no monetary rewards attached, competitive sports would be excluded from this list. Example of indoor recreational games n includes;

1. Playing Hide and Seek
This is one game that is really fun to play in a family or especially among young kids. There are two variations to this game.
For the first variation, the aim of the game is for one person to hide in the house while everyone closes their eyes and counts to 30, 50 or 100 depending on how far the person has to hide. At the end of the count, the search begins for the individual who is hiding. Once the individual is found, the finder becomes the next hider.
For the second variation, the aim of the game is for everyone to hide while one person closes his/her eye and count to 50 or 100. At the end of the count, the search begins for everyone hiding. The first person found becomes the net seeker.
When playing hide and seek it is important to consider safety first, and ensure that everyone in the house knows what is about to happen. Friends and families can edit the rules as they please as it is basically recreation and the aim is to have fun.

2. Playing chess, playing board games and cards.
This an example of a passive recreational game. All you need to play this game is the equipment (chessboard, monopoly, scrabble, card, etc). Friends and families can play this game indoors at almost any time of the day. An individual playing this game needs a combination of intellect and or luck to win. In chess, for example, you need more of intellect, while in games that require dice, it's more of luck needed.

3. Table Tennis, Snooker, Bowling
Major equipment for this game includes a table tennis bat, table tennis ball, a center net, and a table. The size of the table can vary for recreation, however, a standard table tennis stand can be purchased and used for recreation at home. Snooker and Bowling also require special equipment. They are indoor sports and are also a great way to recreate. An individual playing snooker and bowling requires a good hand to eye coordination.

4. Playing Video Games
This is basically the life of many teenagers and kids, lol 😅. Games like FIFA, Fortnite, Candy crush, 8 Ball pool, Score Hero, among others are a major time killer and also a great way to have fun. It is mostly done indoors and can be enjoyed by family and friends.

5. Dancing and Listening to Music
Dancing is a great way to recreate indoors. Dancing and listening to music actually goes together because who dances without music? Dancing is a good way to improve physical fitness, serves as an instrument of expression and communication, helps reduces stress and anxiety among others. Dancing can be done both indoors and outdoors.

6. Yoga, Floor Exercises, Planks, Weight Lifting
Yoga originated in ancient India and it comprises of a combination of physical, mental and spiritual practices. Floor exercises, Planks, and weight lifting are exercises that can be done during one's leisure time indoors.

7. Playing squash
The squash court is an indoor one, hence squash is an indoor sport.
An individual playing the game of squash would need to run, leap and dive for the ball which in turn ensures that such person has an improved cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance and also a good body while improving good hand-eye coordination, flexibility, agility, among others. Basically, the individual would be physically fit.

8. Arm Wrestling
Arm wrestling basically is a sport to show who has the best arm strength among two individuals.  To play arm wrestling, each individual places one arm on a smooth surface (e.g a table) with their elbows bent and touching the surface, and they grip each other's hand. The aim of the game is to pin your opponent arm on the surface (table) with your hand over your opponents' arm. It is important to note that only one hand should be used, and no leaning or support from the other hand or shoulder is allowed. It can be a fun game among individuals of the same age.

9. Surfing the Internet/Social Media
Exactly what you are doing now right? This is an indoor recreational activity that can be very addictive especially when it comes to social media. Most of these tech giants on the internet have found a way to keep individuals hooked on them spending lots of hours each day on their gadgets. There are numerous benefits of social media such as staying in touch with friends and family, staying updated with recent happenings around the world, among other things. 10. Watching T.V (Sports, Movies, Music Videos, etc)
I am actually watching T.V as I am writing this article 😊. Many individuals around the world spend lots of time watching movies, documentaries, sporting events, videos on YouTube, among others. This is also a great way to recreate especially when you are watching a match at the stadium or watching movies at the cinema with friends and family. or maybe Netflix and chill?
